My family and I drove up to the Yorkshire Dales for a long weekend (for my birthday :) ) in November 2021 and it was one of the scariest drives we ever had -  a storm was battering the whole West of the UK and it was causing havoc on the roads. Many here will remember that weekend as parts of North England and Scotland lost power, some for several days.

 

We settled into our little rented cottage for the night, with gale-force winds still blowing outside, and we struggled to sleep as we worried about falling trees damaging the house or the car. But by the morning, the winds had subsided and the Dales had been transformed - every hill was white, covered with snow.

 

We had a fantastic hike up into the hills above Sedbergh, and this painting captures my memories of our descent back down into the valley.
